چکیده مقاله:

The Persian Gulf due to its position in subtropical belt is influenced by many intense dust storms during the year. The periodic dust events are expected to affect significantly the ecological condition of the Persian Gulf. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of mineral dust on the primary production in phytoplankton communities of Persian Gulf. Satellite data from SeaWiFS sensor were used in order to analyze monthly mean aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and chlorophyll concentration (Chl_a) from 1998 to 2007. The results identified that the maximum of AOT is occurred in warm season with a peak in July. Annual changes in distribution of chlorophyll-a in almost in all areas were similar and were showed a decrease in chlorophyll content with increasing water temperature except in Southern regions. It showed that the presence of mineral dust in the warm seasons in the southern Persian Gulf plays a key role in phytoplankton growth according to the disadvantage of other physical factors. The numerous experiments were associated with an increase in the correlation coefficient between chlorophyll-a concentration and AOT when was considered a monthly delay, from 0.19 to 0.51. This behavior might be due to the time required for mineral dust deposition and its significant environmental effects.

Survey on chlorophyll-a changes in Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman

Chlorophyll-a indicates the biomass of phytoplankton as the primary production. Chlorophyll-a changes indicate the situation of the ecosystem. The present study was conducted for monitoring it in the northern part of the Persian Gulf and Oman Gulf. For this purpose, CTD and NASA site information was used. Samplings were done from January-March 2018-2021. Mean southern waters chlorophyll-a in ...

Dust Storms Detection and Its Impacts on the Growth and Reproductive Traits of Grape vine (Vitis vinifera) in Malayer Plain

Introduction: Dust storm is one of the air pollutants in desert areas that have damaging effects on environmental ecosystems. This phenomenon usually happens when severe winds occur in arid areas which are accompanied by the ascent of dust particles to the upper layers of the atmosphere. HYSPLIT model can assist in detecting the path of dust entering the stations. In addition, synoptic patterns...

Dust storms and ephemeral lakes

In drylands, both dust storms and ephemeral salt lakes (playas) are common. Observations using remote sensing and ground studies have shown that these playas can be major sources of saline dust storms. Some basins have recently become desiccated as a result of water abstraction by humans, and these have become significant sources of dust. The timing and amounts of dust emissions depends on such...

Observations of Strong Surface Radar Ducts over the Persian Gulf

Ducting of microwave radiation is a common phenomenon over the oceans. The height and strength of the duct are controlling factors for radar propagation and must be determined accurately to assess propagation ranges. A surface evaporation duct commonly forms due to the large gradient in specific humidity just above the sea surface; a deeper surface-based or elevated duct frequently is associate...
